Test Drive Meme: Situation Normal, All F-ed Up

Welcome to the Space Olympics.
All the oxygen has run out,
and someone who will not be named
accidentally hit self-destruct!

Everyone was having a good time visiting a small trading outpost for a hoverball tournament when it suffered from a terrible accident. Now, all the life support is failing and the self-destruct timer is counting down the minutes! Worse, Outbound Flight herself isn't docked, too busy gathering mineral resources in the area, and it won't arrive before the countdown runs to zero.

Will you run for it? Steal a shuttle? Use the emergency escape pods? Help civilians? Push them out of the way? Use your l33t engineering skills to fix the system malfunction? Punch something? Try EVA? Cry a lot?

Act quickly, because any way you slice this, you're not going to have much time before the air running out is the least of your concerns...

[Go incognito for a while, Axl. It'll be fun, Axl. You won't make station security twitchy this way, Axl.

He was never listening to that again.

It wasn't that the air leaving the station was really a problem-- he liked EVA. It was just that without the extra mass handy and without his dash jets, it was a lot harder to push through the crowd. And the self-destruct was a problem too, and he couldn't find Clu to suss out where to either cut wires or send a desist command.

So, shuttlebay. With his luck, the equipment was on the outside to prevent internal threats from getting at it. There was a red dude who seemed suspiciously.. loungy by one of the doors.]

Hey! You any good at computers?

[Worth a shot!]

[That! Is not a human.

Sure, Axl looked pretty human. But there was something not-a-human about the way the Force regarded him. It's interesting, might be what he'd been waiting for to begin with, but Jacint ... isn't quite sure. What races looked human but weren't?

Computers were definitely not his area of expertise though. That was biology, not mechanical engineering. He straightens up a bit anyway.]

No. Am mostly good, biologicals. Why?

[Well, he understands Basic! But apparently has a difficult time speaking it, by the heavy accent and the way 'L' doesn't really sound like 'L' most of the time. It might be OBVIOUS why Axl's asking really but it's better to make sure.

Jacint's pretty certain he can't really help with this, so guarding his shuttle is a better idea, and yet ... Maybe Axl could.]

Balls.

[He ran both hands back through his hair and tugged a little on the ends. Tracking down the right console was going to be a pain in the ass!]

Somebody needs to find the damn self-destruct and override it.
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Probably Jacint should at least get up. If this is who he'd been waiting for it should at least behoove him to be polite enough to stand. Or .. do. Something, besides guard his shuttle door.

After a moment he raises one hand, brow ridges furrowed.]

Can find, is easy. Not so much, disable.

[This is going to get problematic if he had to explain anything detailed though.]

Speak Bocce, Huttese?
gunholic: (face oh hai)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... nope. Sorry.

[Axl scowled into the middle distance until he stopped and actually processed that first remark.]

Wait.. you can just find stuff?

C'mon then! I can get it turned off if you can locate it!
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-01 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's not precisely accurate, and Jacint spends a solid thirty or fourty seconds trying to figure out how to say that, and then explain it, in a way that wouldn't come out horribly mutilated. Basic was just not a language he was fond of. Eventually he frowns, then shrugs.]

Yes.

[He relied on the Dark Side to inform him of pertinent information to his continued survival and growth in power, and it was a generally very reliable thing for that. Aiding Axl would directly relate to his own continued not-getting-blown-up-or-asphyxiated.

How to say so in Basic, he has no idea. Probably it wasn't important.]

Good. Then we go.

[But not terribly quickly and boy does it seem like Jacint's just wandering from place to place but the Force had its own way of doing things and as much as he was learning to be its master, sometimes it meant following directions.

Directions that lead straight through those panicky crowds in fact, multiple times, until they're headed below the bulk of the outpost. If you're going to put a bomb anywhere, to maximize destruction, the primary generators did make the most sense.]
gunholic: (face closed eyes)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-03 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Axl followed gamely, though it was rough going at a few spots. Why did he have to be so short out of his battle armor? It wasn't fair.

It seemed like the red guy knew what he was doing, even if it involved a lot of stopping for things. Reminded Axl of someone with a chemical sensor suite trying to stay on a scent, actually, which was probably a good thing. He tried not to hurry the dude along.

The generators were actually a pretty good sign. That meant there was probably only one explosive point, and thus if things did go a little pear-shaped with the override he could probably physically get at the thing and chuck it outside to no ill effect.]

This the place?
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[At least the bomb hasn't gone off and life support hasn't completely died by the time they arrive, which means there's still time to panic and run around like chickens with their heads cut off later!

He draws to a stop beside the generator proper, tilting his head first one way then the other, almost like a hawk might when trying to get a better look at its prey.]

Yes, is here. Inside machine. Is ... dangerous, don't know how. Just is.

[Though that much might be glaringly obvious. That the self-destruct isn't sitting right out in the open, easy to disable and remove, also might not be much of a surprise. He points with one clawed finger, very cautiously tapping on the metal. It sparks.]

Other-other side of this. Can shield, somewhat. Make a little safer.
gunholic: (neutral)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-03 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Danger is my middle name!

[Axl. Axl no. You don't have a middle name.

He did, however, decide to finally say screw it and call his armor to him. The extra layer of protection was important if he was looking at possibly playing in a higher-radiation environment.]

Stand back over there, then. I should be fine!

[And X always used to groan at his love of explosions! How else were you going to learn bomb disposal if you didn't build them all the time?]
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-03 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
What is rest of name?

[No, that's not what it means, and after a moment Jacint actually seems to realize that. But it's too late by then, and the alien winces, suddenly annoyed with himself. This is the sort of mistake he shouldn't still be making, he's been listening to Basic for years!

At least the frustration can be put to use, raising his hands and making a sharp, abrupt gesture seemingly of negation - and then a staticky bubble of purple snaps into being around Axl. It'll go where he goes, and likely won't get in the way, certainly won't make things worse--]

'Should be' often 'is not', in dangerous things.

[It's all but muttered, as the young Sith backsteps away, careful to maintain line of sight, but if there's going to be explosions he's going to take a bit of distance here for safety's sake..]
gunholic: (smile smile)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-03 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I'm Axl~!

[He offered what was probably a very disturbing grin at the red guy. Oh well.]

Yeah, well, probably better me than you.

[The purple thing was new. He took a moment to try and poke it, wondering at how the red guy was able to pull it from nowhere like that. It looked like a portable shield wall, only it was hanging around a lot longer than those did and he hadn't seen the red guy use a generator.

Maybe it was one of those weird Force things, like the weirdos on the ship.]

Okay~! I'm gonna try the panel first, and if that doesn't work I'm going in and pulling the detonator. Wish me luck~!
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-03 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Okay.

[Axl. How amazingly simplistic and likely that Jacint is going to have trouble pronouncing it. It might just seem like muttering from where he'd retreated to, a bit growly even, but when L is a problem the quiet repetitions of Axl tend to sound.. skewed. The closes that he can reliably manage is an R sound.

It's not right, but it also doesn't interrupt what's going on (in theory) and accidentally provides plenty of fuel by the way of growing annoyance at the language barrier in case suddenly he needed to do more than offer a shield.

This person, this Axl, is way too happy about being faced with a bomb even for Jacint's tastes. He'd dealt with reckless, but this seemed almost suicidal. Maybe Axl figured since they might die anyway, no reason to hold back?

He frowns, in his hiding spot. No, that didn't seem right.]

Is likely tied to primary power source. Dangerous.

[If the Dark Side was noting the risk, it was probably EXCESSIVELY dangerous.]
gunholic: (shakes tiny fist)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-03 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Axl had noticed this guy had a heavy accent, so he wasn't as likely to make fun of Jacint as he thought about it. It happened.

He did head to the computer panel to have a good poke at the software, just in case he could actually get the damn thing to turn off on its own. It was probably locked to somebody's vitals or other bio-signature though with his luck...]

Well it is a self-destruct gizmo.

[Hmmmm.. nope, it was asking for some kind of physical key since he didn't have the right retina or something. No time to use trial and error to brute-force it.]

Okay then, detonator it is. Have it your way.

[Yes, yes he was talking to the console.]
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-03 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Jacint didn't have a key either, but when nothing happens immediately (of course prompt results are expected, and he wasn't really good at patience to begin with), cautiously he slides back out of his chosen hiding spot.

A good excuse is having to refresh the barrier soon, but part of it is wanting to know what Axl is doing. The bomb wasn't going to talk back!]

What do?

[Is he going to just pull it out?! ..Well that would possibly WORK, but what was it going to do in retaliation?]
gunholic: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-04 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm gonna disable it and pull it. You just, uh, hang around back there. You found it for me, after all.

[Axl took his time taking the panel off, no fast moves and no shaking. The first might jiggle something he didn't want jiggled, and the second was just unprofessional.

As predicted, there was a rat's nest of wires around a block that looked like it was set on some kind of activity or temperature regulator. Clever. Start a meltdown of the power source and even if it didn't blow up right, the place was going to be crapped up and irradiated forever.

He hummed a little to himself, peering around all the bits of the block. It was gonna be a lot easier to remove if it was a post-construction add-on...]
cepicorpus: (Default)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-04 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Inaction is excessively difficult.]

...Okay.

[So much for obedience, Jacint is definitely not hanging out 'back there', he's going to be watching from close enough where he has some idea of what's going on! Which might well be too close for Axl's piece of mind, but another one of those purple bubbles seems to be getting put to use.

Probably it won't help with a truly catastrophic explosion, but he has enough faith it'll handle a minor one. The Dark Side was stronger than bombs, but only up to a point.

In fact the longer he's left to his own devices the closer the Sith's getting. Wasn't he told to stay back?]
gunholic: (linefais)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-06 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[It definitely took Axl some willpower to avoid twitching as Jacint approached. Bad Sith. No biscuit.]

You know, if you really want to learn bomb disposal, I can show you later.

[Well, post-production model it looked like. That made it easier. He started sorting the wires, tracing what went where without pulling any out just yet. If he could disconnect it from the systems in question, it would be pretty simple to toss the actual detonator out an airlock.]
cepicorpus: (14)

[personal profile] cepicorpus 2014-09-06 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[But he can't see what's going on from way over there! It's not ideal at all!]

Is okay, can watch now. Won't get in way.

[That's probably not at all reassuring. How much harder is it to do things while being watched like a hawk? At least he's not getting closer, but Jacint is definitely not moving away again. Yet.

He has no idea what that whole nest of wires and stuff is, electronics aren't his area of expertise. While the temptation to begin asking questions is nearly overwhelming, for the moment it's firmly squelched. It may or may not last.

But there is definitely some fidgeting going on.]
gunholic: (sweatdrop)

[personal profile] gunholic 2014-09-07 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Axl growled a little under his breath, but he kinda didn't have time to argue. At least red guy was keeping his word about staying out of the way.]

If you get irradiated, I am so not cleaning up the pile of goo.

[Wires sorted, Axl started picking out the ones he needed, wrapping them around the fingers of one hand. He'd pull them all at the same time when he was done-- safer that way than to risk a short and accidentally triggering something. Soon enough he had all the lines into the detonator isolated and, after a brief moment where he closed his eyes and hoped it would work, he tugged them all free.]
